What does your company name “Mita Rika Kogyo Co., Ltd.” mean?
Our company founder is from Sanda City, Hyogo Prefecture and he named
his company Sanda Rika-ki Manufacturing when he started selling laboratory equipment in Osaka. “Mita” is another reading of the Japanese characters “Sanda” and “Mita” was easier for our clients to pronounce than “Sanda”.

What is “RACOON”?
“RACOON” is our brand name and means Procyon lotor（commonly known as ”raccoon” in English）.
As we wrote above, the correct English spelling is “raccoon”. Once one of our clients, a chief pharmacist of a university hospital who purchased our washer told us, “Mita Rika Kogyo’s product is like a raccoon”. After that, we have been using “RACOON” as our brand name.
Where does the word “milk preparation” comes?
Powdered milk was sold before World War II also in Japan, and it
started becoming popular in the 1950s. In 1955, arsenic mixed in
with powdered milk at Morinaga’s factory.
The powdered milk was called “modified milk powder” or “formula milk,” therefore “milk preparation” started to be used for blended powdered milk or blending in papers on infant nutrition in the 1960s. In 1971, Mita Rika Kogyo Co., Ltd. tried to develop the first milk preparation room in Japan based on a washer and a milk preparation table in cooperation with Osaka City University Hospital and Hyogo Prefectural Kobe Children’s Hospital.
Since then, Mita Rika Kogyo Co., Ltd. has been introducing milk preparation rooms and equipment for milk preparation to hospitals around Japan and installation of such systems has become popular. It is no exaggeration to say that Mita Rika Kogyo’s proposing of milk preparation, milk preparation rooms, equipment for milk preparation, milk preparation systems and milk preparation total systems for all obstetric and pediatric clinics and hospitals for newborns and immature babies made the word “milk preparation” pervasive.
